Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday observed that it was unfortunate that the Union government had not taken steps to establish a lasting memorial for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Delhi.
Addressing a gathering after unveiling a statue of Manmohan Singh at Wipro Circle in the Financial District here on Saturday, Revanth Reddy said the Centre should “at times”, take decisions that go beyond political considerations and demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi must recommend the conferment of Bharat Ratna on Manmohan Singh, particularly for his role in facilitating the formation of Telangana.
Revanth said that he had instructed Telangana MPs to raise the demand in the Lok Sabha and bring the matter to the attention of the Union government.
The Chief Minister urged the Centre to also establish a Knowledge centre in Delhi in honour of Manmohan Singh.
The Chief Minister amplified that the former Prime Minister was a great leader who steered the Indian economy forward with quiet composure and brought distinction to the positions of Reserve Bank Governor, Finance Minister, and Prime Minister.
