Hyderabad : Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Thursday said that severe rainfall deficit conditions have arisen in the state in the wake of El Niño.
Ponnam Prabhakar directed officials to remain accessible to the public at the field level in rural areas.
The minister held a review meeting at the IOC office in Husnabad, Siddipet district, with collectors and officials from Siddipet, Karimnagar, and Hanamkonda districts to discuss the situation.
The officials from the seven mandals of the Husnabad constituency attended the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar advised officials to remain accessible to the public at the field level in rural areas.
The Minister directed officials to take government programs to the people freely and without any pressure.
He stated that a serious water problem was expected in the coming days because scientists predicted that it would not rain before June and advised farmers to create awareness to prevent a shortage of feed for animals.
With regard to agriculture, he recommended that crops using little water should be grown since the situation was drought-like.
In view of the decrease in groundwater level on a daily basis, guidelines were issued to restore groundwater.
He also mentioned the possibility of digging soak pits under the VBG Ramji (MGNREGA) scheme and emphasised the importance of conserving every drop of rainwater.
