Hyderabad: The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) member organisations have vowed to continue to fight until the Centre withdraws its pro-corporate policies. On Monday, the SKM trade union organisations organised the Jail Bharo programme.
State conveners Teegala Sagar, Pashya Padma, V Prabhakar, R Venkatramulu, Mandala Venkanna, Jakkula Venkatayya, Nagi Reddy, Vijay, and trade union leaders Paladugu Bhaskar (CITU), Bal Raju (AITUC), Rambabu (BRTU), Chandrasekhar (INTUC), Suryam (TUCI), and M Srinivas (IFTU) called for a united fight until the Centre withdraws its “pro-corporate, anti-farmer, anti-labour and anti-people policies.”
Tension prevailed after the member organisations of SKM took out a rally as part of the Jail Bharo programme from Khairatabad to Lok Bhavan on Monday.
However, police prevented the protesters and arrested and sent them to Punjagutta and Afzal Ganj police stations.
Speaking on the occasion, the leaders demanded the scrapping of the India-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA), the four labour codes, and implementation of the C2+50% MSP Act for all crops, and a comprehensive loan waiver to prevent suicides of farmers and labourers.
Besides, they demanded that Rs 25 lakh compensation should be given to the family of each farmer who committed suicide, a minimum wage of Rs 26,000 for all workers, and 200 days of work.
Also, they demanded scrapping of the Electricity Privatisation Bill-2025 and the Seed Bill-2025, which forced land acquisition to be stopped.
With these demands and on August 10, marking the 84th anniversary of 'Quit India' Day, 'Jail Bhar' or 'Road Roko' was held in district and divisional centres across the state.
