Hyderabad: The Telangana Food Safety Enforcement (TGSAFE) has launched a sweeping crackdown across Hyderabad’s Core Urban Region, inspecting 19 popular cafés and restaurants.
The operation resulted in the immediate suspension of the FSSAI licence for the iconic Shadab Hotel, famous for its traditional Hyderabadi biryani, alongside orders to cease all business operations.
Furthermore, two other establishments Dreamz Cafeteria in Baghlingampally and Asiatic Café in Punjagutta—were shut down entirely for operating without valid FSSAI licences or registrations.
A joint team comprising nine units of Food Safety Officers and police personnel conducted the inspections, seizing 15 food samples suspected of adulteration for laboratory testing.
Officials reported widespread hygiene and sanitation failures across the inspected sites.
Common violations included staff working without proper headgear, open dustbins, littered waste, cluttered storage, food stored directly on floors, expired or spoiled ingredients, severe labeling defects, and active infestations of cockroaches and houseflies.
Many outlets also failed to produce mandatory FoSTaC training certificates, employee health records, or pest-control documentation.
Following the raids, TGSAFE proposed improvement notices for 12 popular venues, including Nimra Cafe and Bakery, Rio Restaurant, Café Persia, Bahar Café, Café Deccan, and Honeymoon Café.
Additionally, five establishments received show-cause notices: Golden Café, Mirosa Cafe and Kitchen, Dreamz Cafeteria, Asiatic Café, and Shadab Hotel.
Enforcement authorities confirmed that follow-up visits will be conducted to verify compliance, warning that failure to rectify these serious deficiencies will trigger stricter legal action.
While fines and monetary penalties under statutory provisions may reach thousands of Rs, officials maintained that public health remains the primary priority over commercial operations.
Re-inspections are scheduled over the coming days, with final outcomes deciding whether these historic establishments will be allowed to resume service to the public.
