Ongole: District Collector P Raja Babu, along with Joint Collector Kalpana Kumari, led a tree plantation programme at the Collectorate premises in Ongole on Friday.
Speaking at the event, Raja Babu informed that several programmes are being conducted from August 10 to 15 to mark the 80th Independence Day.
These included selfie video competitions and events under the Viksit Bharat theme. He said that steps were taken to ensure the national flag flew over every house.
Rallies were also held to spread the message of national unity and patriotism. He urged every citizen to take part in such programmes personally. He advised people to plant trees and nurture them to full growth.
He further said that these programmes were also being held on a large scale at mandal and village levels.
District Revenue Officer Venkatramana, District Forest Officer Vinod Kumar, Social Forest Officer Rajasekhara Rao and Collectorate staff also attended.
