Hyderabad: Mild tension prevailed in Madannapet police limits on Sunday after unknown persons allegedly threw mutton pieces at a Ganesh immersion procession.
Police brought the situation under control by dispersing groups that gathered at the spot to prevent any untoward incident.
Speaking to IWP, the police said, a group of devotees took part in the Ganesh immersion procession. After the immersion, the organisers arranged a food distribution camp in the locality.
As devotees lined up for lunch, unknown persons allegedly threw mutton pieces at the gathering. Objecting to the incident, some people tried to protest and demanded that police take action.
Police reportedly detained two suspects and shifted them to the police station.
Meanwhile, another group gathered at the spot and objected to the police action, claiming that their associates had been taken into custody.
Police dispersed the gathering and deployed additional forces in the area as a precautionary measure.
Police said an inquiry was under way and that appropriate action would be taken based on the findings.
