Kurnool: Nandi Rythu Samakhya has strongly condemned filing of cases against 35 farmers and former public representatives, who peacefully sought water at the district Collectorate.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, leaders Rama Subba Reddy, Krishna Reddy, Chandrasekhar, Madhusudan Reddy, former sarpanch Kotireddy Erranna and others stressed that farmers committed no offense by simply requesting irrigation and drinking water for their drying crops, cattle, and families.
The association highlighted that despite Srisailam reservoir holding approximately 175 TMC of water, authorities have refused to release it downstream.
With Rabi season beginning on September 15, farmers urgently need water to cultivate short-term crops and avert a severe drought in the Rayalaseema region.
Denouncing the administration’s gate-closing tactics and subsequent legal action against peaceful petitioners as vindictive, the Samakhya demanded an immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all cases.
Furthermore, they urged the government and the district Collector to prioritise public welfare by releasing water immediately to support the agricultural community that sustains the nation.Drop illegal cases, release water.
