New Delhi : Following a dharna by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Delhi Police has agreed to register an FIR regarding pellet injuries sustained by a youth during a recent protest at Jantar Mantar, highlighting political pressure on law enforcement.

Rahul Gandhi stages dharna for FIR in pellet injuries case
Delhi Police will register an FIR concerning pellet injuries from a July 20 Jantar Mantar protest.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi staged a dharna at a police station to demand the FIR.

The FIR relates to 19-year-old Sahil Lochab, who sustained pellet injuries.
Gandhi criticised Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging "orders from the top" prevented initial FIR registration.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other senior Congress leaders also joined the protest. The Delhi Police will register a first information report (FIR) in connection with pellet injuries suffered by a youth during the July 20 protest at Jantar Mantar, an official source said on Friday.

The move comes after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi staged a dharna at the Parliament Street police station, demanding registration of the FIR in connection with pellet injuries suffered by 19-year-old Sahil Lochab during the Cockroach Janta Party-led protest.

Rahul Gandhi's Intervention Leads To FIR Registration : "We will be registering an FIR in the matter. We received a complaint from the mother of Sahil Lochab," the source said.

Gandhi claimed that he was told by police officers that an FIR could not be registered as 'there are orders from the top'.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha also targeted Union Home Minister Amit Shah, saying that he was afraid of justice.

Gandhi, along with Lochab, first visited the Mandir Marg police station and sought the registration of the FIR.

After his demand was not accepted, he went to the Parliament Street police station and met Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi district) Sachin Sharma.

After the discussion with Sharma failed to yield results, the Congress leader sat on a dharna at the police station, which also houses the DCP's office.

Lochab and his mother were also there. Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other senior party leaders also joined the protest.
