Hyderabad: A Blinkit delivery executive was allegedly assaulted by a group, including his warehouse manager, for having a Muslim name in Hyderabad.

Habeeb Ansari from Banka district in Bihar has been living in the Golconda area for the last five years. He works as a delivery boy.

On November 3, after delivering an order around 11 pm, he was driving to the warehouse in Panchavati Colony under the Raidurgam Police Station’s jurisdiction, when he heard screams. He stopped to check in.

Around 10 people surrounded him and allegedly asked his name. When they came to know he was a Muslim, the group brutally assaulted him.

He ran to a street-side eatery to seek rescue from his attackers. But they followed and dragged him out in front of the customers and the cook, and allegedly beat him up. Closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage captured the moment when he was attacked.

On Sunday, November 6, Ansari approached Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan.

On his social media platforms, Khan said that the whole attack was recorded on Khan’s mobile and that he tried to call his brother for help during the assault. “Before I could tell him my location, they snatched my phone away. But the cal was not disconnected,” Ansari says, standing next to Khan.

Locals took an injured Ansari to the Raidurgam Police Station, where a sub-inspector asked his team to take him for a medical test.

Once back at the police station, he claimed that his attackers were present there and threatened him against filing a complaint. “They told me not to file the complaint or else they will kill me. Police officers were standing,” he alleged.

Ansari says that a constable forced him to pay Rs 1,500 and not report. He took his phone and broke it.

The MBT spokesperson has alleged that so far, no first information report (FIR) has been filed. “For the last two years, a pattern has emerged where a Muslim is being cornered and beaten up by non-Muslim people. Police have not been proactive in solving the case. If an FIR is files, there is no further investigation and arrests,” Khan said in a a video on his social media accounts.

This media tried repeatedly to call the Raidurgam Police Station to learn the status of the incident but received no response.
