Avanigadda: Andhra Pradesh Working Journalists Federation (APWJF) general secretary G Anjaneyulu said the federation would continue its relentless efforts to safeguard the welfare of journalists and resolve their long-pending issues.
He called upon journalists across the State to make the Demand Day programme, scheduled for July 31, a grand success.
The APWJF Avanigadda Assembly constituency meeting was held at the Tahsildar’s Office here in Krishna district on Sunday.
During the meeting, a new APWJF Avanigadda constituency committee was elected unanimously.
Federation leaders also unveiled the poster for the upcoming Demand Day programme.
Addressing the gathering, Anjaneyulu said the federation has been consistently raising issues concerning journalists.
He recalled that more than 2,000 journalists participated in the Maha Dharna organised in Vijayawada two months ago to press for the resolution of various issues affecting the media fraternity.
He said APWJF would continue to work with sincerity and determination for the welfare of journalists and urged media professionals to participate in large numbers in the July 31 Demand Day programme.
He demanded the restoration of railway pass concessions for accredited journalists, the introduction of a pension scheme for journalists after retirement, and the allotment of house sites.
As part of the Demand Day programme on July 31, journalists will submit representations highlighting these demands to Tahsildars and District Collectors across the State, he added.
Avanigadda constituency youth leader Mandali Venkatram, who attended the meeting as the chief guest, said the Coalition government stands firmly with journalists and recognises their vital role in strengthening democracy by bringing public issues to light.
The meeting, chaired by APWJF Krishna district general secretary Jonna Ravi Shankar, was attended by APWJF Krishna district president Dondapati Uday Kumar, NTR district president M Srinivasa Rao, NTR district general secretary MB Nathan, State leaders Dasari Srinivasa Rao, Y Srinivasa Rao and Vallabhaneni Suresh, Krishna district treasurer Rompalli Achyuta Ramaiah, Divi Journalists Association president Putti Srinivasa Rao, Avanigadda Press Club president Appikatla Srinivasa Rao, Small Newspapers Association president Pathan Khan, State Photojournalists Association leader YD Anand, and several journalists from the Avanigadda constituency.
The newly elected committee comprises M Suryanarayana as honorary president, Alaparthi Gopalakrishna as president, Lanke Srinivasa Rao as general secretary, I Rama Rao and K Babu Rao as joint secretaries, Mopidevi Ammanna as treasurer, and KV Subba Rao, Udayagiri Prashanth, Appikatla Sivakrishna and P Srinivasa Rao as executive committee members.
