New Delhi: India reported 21,257 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Friday (October 8).
With 271 fatalities, the death toll mounted to 4,50,127. While the active caseload reached 2,40,221, the lowest in 205 days, the ministry added. There has been a decline of 3,977 cases in the active caseload in the last 24 hours.
India’s total infection cases rose to 3,39,15,569. India has been witnessing a daily spike in cases below 30,000 for 14 straight days. The recovery rate is currently at 97.96 per cent, the highest since March 2020.
India had reported 22,431 fresh COVID-19 cases and 318 deaths on Thursday.
As many as 13,85,706 tests were conducted on Thursday taking the total number of tests conducted so far for detection of COVID-19 in the country to 58,00,43,190.
The daily positivity rate, which has been less than three per cent for the last 39 days, was reported at 1.53 per cent. The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 1.64 per cent. It has been below three per cent for the last 105 days, according to the ministry, PTI reported.
The number of people who have recovered from the COVID-19 infection surged to 3,32,25,221, while the case fatality rate was logged at 1.33 per cent.
Meanwhile, 93.17 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under the vaccination drive. More than 8.22 crore doses are still available with States/UTs to be administered.
