Srikakulam: Uttarandhra districts -Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam- require a special developmental package like Bundelkhand, Lalahnadi and Koraput for the overall development of the region, opined the intellectuals and political leaders.
A discussion (charchavedika) was held at Kasibugga town in Srikakulam district on Sunday under the chairmanship of Dr D Jiviteshwara Rao. He demanded setting up of a separate Development Council for Uttarandhra as it has been neglected by both the Central and State governments .
Natural resources are more than sufficient in this region but lack of commitment in their utilisation for development is resulting in mass migrations from this region, Jiviteswara Rao lamented.
CPI and BJP leaders Ch.Sunderlal, JV Satyanarayana Murthy, Ch Venkata Ramana, A Appala Naidu, B Mohan Rao and V Balakrishna and faculty of Tribal University and other prominent institutions of this region stressed the need of providing irrigated water for crops.
They said that people should be made aware about the injustice meted out to this region. As a result, they are losing opportunities on all fronts.
