Owaisi to contest in Gujrat for RSS, says Muslims can never become vote bank, change regime in India

Ahmedabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday said that AIMIM would be contesting the upcoming assembly elections in Gujarat.

India never had and will never have a numerically large Muslim vote bank and the community will never have the potential to change the regime in the country.

“This country never had and will never have any Muslim vote bank. Muslims cannot change a regime in the country. You have been misled. Muslims always thought they were a vote bank. But this is not true”, said AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi addressing an event in Ahmedabad.

“In India, there has been a majoritarian vote bank and will be there. If we could change a regime, why would there be less representation of Muslims in Parliament? If we could change the government….then the court order came on Babri Masjid, and now the Gyanvapi mosque issue has cropped up,” added Owaisi.

On Thursday, he termed the Gyanvapi Masjid verdict a “blatant violation” of the Places of Worship Act 1991. As per the Act, “no person shall convert any place of worship of any religious denomination or any section thereof into a place of worship of a different section of the same religious denomination or of a different religious denomination or any section thereof.”

He said that the court’s decision is also a violation of the Supreme Court judgment given in the Babri Masjid title dispute.”The order of the court is a blatant violation of the Places of Worship Act 1991. It is a violation of Supreme Court judgment given in the Babri Masjid title dispute,” Owaisi told.

His comments came in the wake of the Gyanvapi Masjid vs Shringar Gauri case after a Varanasi court allowed the survey of the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi. The officials began the court-mandated survey in the mosque.

The AIMIM chief questioned the Congress’s silence over the Gyanvapi Masjid row. He said, “Why Congress is not saying anything about the Gyanvapi Masjid case? This country can’t be run on basis of ‘Astha’, this country has to be run on the basis of rule of law, the Constitution of India. Will contest elections in Gujarat,”, added Owaisi in Ahmedabad.
