Rajamahendravaram: The Water Resources Department (WRD) is planning to supply adequate water for cultivation of paddy crop in the ensuing rabi season in East and West Godavari districts.
Addressing the Distributory Committee presidents in Dowleswaram here on Wednesday, Irrigation Circle (DIC) superintending engineer B Rambabu said that 83 tmc feet of water is required during the rabi season and there is only 66 tmc feet of water available at present. Of the present water storage, eight tmc feet of water is allotted for drinking water purpose, he said.
In twin Godavari districts, paddy crop will be raised in nine lakh acres, of which 4.50 lakh acres is raised in East Godavari district. Eastern Delta Project Committee Chairman Bhupathi Raju Iswar Raju advised the officials of WRD, to combat water problem during rabi season and release water as per need. He asked the officials to pay pending bills of last year relating to cross bunds in the district.
